A Park for All Seasons

Way Park is the heart of a vibrant neighborhood on the west side of Northfield. It features: a musical playground; playground equipment and swings; pre-school equipment; a basketball court; picnic and grilling areas; a walking path; a warming hut and ice rink (seasonal); a small baseball/kickball diamond (seasonal); a large open field perfect for pick up soccer games and kite flying; and lovely rain gardens. Our organization, The Friends of Way Park hosts several events every year including Yoga in the Park, Pumpkin Fest, and a spring picnic event.

Upcoming Projects at Way Park

Northfield Hospital Memorial Garden

One of the founding missions of the Friends of Way Park was to memorialize the 1939 Northfield Hospital building that previously occupied the south end of the park. Plans are underway to construct a memorial garden on this spot.

Recent Projects at Way Park

Basketball Court Improvement

The existing basketball court was expanded and improved in order to encourage recreational activity and community connections. The existing 30'x30' court and old hoop was replaced by a 42'x56' court and two new, high-quality hoops. Many thanks to all those who contributed to this project.

Friends of Way Park (FWP) is a group of neighbors in Northfield, Minnesota, working together on issues related to the restoration and care of this historic parkland.

Our Mission
The mission of Friends of Way Park is to honor the Way family gift of 1933 by preserving this community parkland for present and future generations.

Our Purpose

To support, advise, and cooperate with the City of Northfield in the planning, development, programming, beautification, and maintenance of Way Park
To encourage the use of Way Park by the entire Northfield community
To memorialize the 1939 Northfield hospital that previously occupied the south part of the park
To encourage and receive gifts and bequests in support of the purposes previously noted
