A Park for All Seasons

Way Park is the heart of a vibrant neighborhood on the west side of Northfield. It features: a musical playground; playground equipment and swings; pre-school equipment; a basketball court; picnic and grilling areas; a walking path; a warming hut and ice rink (seasonal); a small baseball/kickball diamond (seasonal); a large open field perfect for pick up soccer games and kite flying; and lovely rain gardens. Our organization, The Friends of Way Park hosts several events every year including Yoga in the Park, Pumpkin Fest, and a spring picnic event.

Why a memorial garden in Way Park?

Way Park was the site of the Northfield Hospital from 1939 until 2005.

Friends of Way Park formed in 2005 to help guide the return of the land back to a park.

In 2007, the City of Northfield commissioned a Master Plan that was approved by PRAB and the Northfield City Council.

The Master Plan included a Hospital Memorial Garden on the south side of the park (2nd Street).

Why now?

Friends of Way Park received a donation from a park neighbor to honor the memory of a neighbor who was born in the Hospital and lived in a home adjacent to the park.

Much energy and attention has been paid to the north end of Way Park in recent years, and to amenities for young children and families. This garden will be accessible to all and provide a space for quiet contemplation.

Future Garden Location

The memorial garden will be located at the south end of the park between the amphitheater and the kiosk. Existing sidewalks will remain as they are.

How to Contribute

Donations to the Friends of Way Park will be used to construct and maintain the garden. We thank you in advance for supporting the park and the memorial!
